Define Your Wins

Leadership tip: Take control of defining the wins for your job in 2025.


So often, when a subordinate disagrees with their supervisor's assessment of their performance, the subordinate feels stuck.


How do you get unstuck if you find yourself in this situation?


Lead up by taking the initiative to craft 3-4 goals that you believe, if achieved, will give you a ✅ in the win column for 2025.


A couple of keys to make this approach work:

  • Don't ask your boss for the goals; instead, craft them yourself. By now, you know what's important to your organization, department, and boss.

  • Make your goals as objective and quantifiable as possible. This is how you can move your boss's assessment of your performance from feelings to facts.


Is this another tip about goal setting? Nope!


It's about taking responsibility for your career and helping you to gain influence with your boss. This approach will also help you get unstuck inside your organization and move your career in the right direction.


If you have found yourself saying, "It's not my job to set my goals." It's that mentality that has you stuck.
